The French Foreign Affairs Ministry on Thursday expressed its commitment to stability and democracy in Togo after the announcement, by th e authorities in Lomé, of foiling an attempt involving MP Kpatcha Gnassingbé.
"We are attached, like the international community, to the stability and the con solidation of democracy in Togo," deputy spokesman of the Quai d'Orsay, FrédéricDesagneaux declared during a press briefing.
For France, the latest development of the political situation should, in no way, affect the Togolese electoral calendar.
"It is important that the process leading to the presidential elections planned for next year, as well as the vote itself, take place in conditions of transpare n cy and freedom," Desagneaux asserted.
