Kosovo Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj, and his Togolese counterpart, Robert Dussey, have signed today in Prishtina, the agreement for the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, a few weeks after the official recognition that this country has made to the independence of Kosovo.
During the official reception made in Prishtina for the Togolese Foreign Minister Dussey, Minister Enver Hoxhaj thanked him for his role in the shaping of Togo’s decision to recognize Kosovo as a sovereign and independent state.
"Recognition from Togo has been one of the most important recognitions that the Republic of Kosovo has received and thanks to the determination of the Minister Dussey and support from the Togolese President today we were able to establish diplomatic relations between Togo and Kosovo. We are interested with Togo, to move beyond the diplomatic relations", stated Hoxhaj, seeking further support for the conclusion of the process of recognitions by other African countries that have not yet taken a decision.
Hoxhaj has also expressed interest that with Togo to establish bilateral and multilateral partnerships, for the opportunities on joint investments and exchange of students in the two respective countries. "The visit of Minister of Foreign Affairs is opening a new chapter of cooperation, which will be written during the coming years. We will have the support of the Minister Dussey regarding Kosovo's membership in several organizations in the world that Kosovo has already applied for, and in the coming months, there will be good news for membership in such organizations", Hoxhaj stated, after the meeting.
Kosovo's Foreign Minister has also announced that there were signed two other agreements on bilateral cooperation between Kosovo and Togo and cooperation in the field of economy, trade and education.
On the journalists questions related to the process of recognition, Hoxhaj stressed out that he currently has the information that a country in Africa has the Government’s decision to recognize Kosovo and has sent procedures in its parliament, and soon will become public the recognition from this country, and that a second country is by the end of procedure, regarding the recognition. "I expect that over the summer we may have two other recognitions by September, and I am very confident that the General Assembly of the United Nations will be an event where the Republic of Kosovo will also receive other recognition", said Hoxhaj adding that the recognition process has been unstoppable and global, and that nobody can stop the course of history that the Republic of Kosovo be recognized by many states.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Togolese Republic, Robert Dussey, stated that the Togolese Government has decided to lobby to other countries for recognition of Kosovo's independence. "Your independence is necessary, because we believe that the determination of the people is for peace in the world. With our presence here we want to confirm that Togo is dedicated to lobby and do its utmost to influence the states that have not recognized Kosovo, to recognize it", stated Minister Dussey, adding that they will work with all of those states to recognize the Republic of Kosovo.
Dussey has also expressed the willingness of the Togolese Government to strengthen cooperation with Kosovo, highlighting the investments field.
Togolese Foreign Minister has highly praised the commitment of Minister Hoxhaj in lobbying for recognition, noting that as long as Kosovo has an excellence foreign minister as Mr. Hoxhaj other recognition will come.
Minister Dussey talked about Togo’s concrete contribution for recognition from three other African countries that have not recognized Kosovo.
